Weather and Seasons of Bangladesh

Bangladesh is a land of six seasons. Each season consist of two months. They are- i) Summer, ii) Rainy season, iii) Autumn, iv) Late Autumn, v) Winter and vi) Spring. Each season of six has its own charms and characteristics. One can feel different in each season, he forget the monotony of life and can have their daily work a new.

The Bangla month of Baishak and Jaistha (April 14-June 13) are Summer. It is the first season of Bangladeshi calendar. In this season the sky is clear. Days are very hot and long. But the nights are short. Ponds and tanks are dry up and the villagers suffer for want of drinking water. The schools closed for sometime. The jackfruits, litchis, mangoes and many other fruits are available in this season.
After summer, comes the rainy season. Bangla Ashar and Srabon (June 14- August 13) are the month of rainy season. It is season of rainy and water. The sky remains cloudy. It rains off and on. The roads are muddy and slippery. The rivers, ponds and canals are full to brim. Sometimes the rivers overflow their banks and there is flood. Villages look like islands. People use boats to move from one to another. Fisher men catch plenty of fish. Paddy plants grow up ‘Aus’ paddy and jute are harvested. Farmers work hard in the field.
After the rain, comes the autumn. Bangla Bhadra and Aswin (June 14- August 13) are the months of autumn. The cloudy sky becomes clear in this season. But field steel remains under water. The Hindus celebrate their greatest festival Durga Puja in this season.

The late autumn comes next. Kartik and Agrahayan (August 14- October 13) constitute this season. It is the season of due. It is neither very hot nor very cold. The fields look golden with the ripe paddy. The peasants are busy with their harvest.

After the late autumn the winter steps in with its fog and chill. Life in nature seems dull. Leaves of trees fall of. Men and animals shiver with cold. The sun is then mild and pleasant. Poor people suffer much in cold. Date juice a delicious drink is available in this season. ‘Patali gur’ is produced from date juice. Fish and vegetables are available in plenty. Various kinds of cakes and pithas are prepared in this season.

Last of all comes the Spring. It is neither very cold nor very hot. It is the biggest season. It is loved by all. Trees put on new leaves. Flowers bloom, gentle breeze blows from the south. Birds sing melodious songs all day long. It is the most pleasant season. It is called the king of the seasons.
Thus the seasons come and go and make Bangladesh a land of beauty.
